Lessons are offered once a week in my home studio in Errington, online using Skype, or in your home in the Parksville/Qualicum area.  Beginner lessons are 30 minutes, once each week.  As students progress, or add in-depth theory, composition, or improvisation, then lesson length can be extended.

 

Lessons cost $20 for each 1/2 hour lesson, and are pro-rated through the school year so you will hand in equal, monthly, post-dated cheques at the beginning of each September.

 

 

PIANO

I enjoy teaching all ages, from 3 yrs and up.

 

Wunderkeys is an amazing curriculum that I use which is specifically designed for preschool children - Age 3 and 4 yrs

 

Nancy and Randall Faber have four separate books that I use for starting beginners age 5/6, 7-10, 11-17, and Adults.

 

When beginners are ready, we decide if we want to stay in Faber and Faber books, or switch over to RCM, and/or add imporvisation over chord progressions following a lead sheet.

 

THEORY

Theory is a part of every lesson from day one.  This is the part where students get to read, write, and do various games and puzzles that help them learn note names and values etc.

 

When a student reaches a certain level, it is sometimes necessary to schedule extra time for Theory Lessons.

 

COMPOSITION

This can also be a part of lessons from the very beginning, although it will not be present in every lesson.  It is optional, but I have never had a student who refused writing their own piece of music, and they always enjoy doing it, and want to do more!

 

Composition can have extra time scheduled if needed or wanted, and it can also be taken separately, even if a student does not take piano lessons with me.
